STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND

"Strange in a Strange Land" is a photographic project that explores Warwick, Rhode Island, from a unique perspective—as seen through the eyes of a stranger in a strange land. Warwick is my current home, but my roots are in San Francisco on the opposite coast. Upon arriving in Warwick, I was unprepared for what I saw. You see, my knowledge of the New England area was limited to several business trips to New York City and Boston, and what I knew about Rhode Island came from driving through the state on my way to Boston from New York City and an internet search. As we explored Warwick, my first thought was to paraphrase Dorothy, "We're not in Kansas anymore!"

"Stranger in a Strange Land" is a record and celebration of what I discovered through the filter of my experiences and biases as I explored my new hometown, Warwick, Rhode Island. This project is a narrow and specific look at Warwick; it is not a deep, broad look but rather a record of those things I found so different, baffling, exciting and, at times, just plain weird about the city—and almost six years later, still do!
