Back in the Big apple
Good morning from New York City. I am here again, staying in the apartment of a friend of a friend for a week, celebrating my birthday(Thank you!). It is hard to comprehend the fact that I am now seventy-one years old! Ah well, as the old saying goes, "Time and tide wait for no man," and time seems to have slipped away.
The photo above shows where I am sitting, drinking a very strong cup of French Press coffee and writing this entry. As I did last year, I will post a link for a journal entry for each day of my stay on the Journal page. Tomorrow morning's link will take you to the journal entry about today—I think that makes sense.
Today's plan:
Visit Brooklyn Film Camera to get an estimate on the cost of overhauling and modifying the Polaroid SX-70 SE SONAR OneStep that was gifted to me (thank you, Martha!).
Visit East Village Books and Records
Check out the plaque in front of Saul Leiter's home.
Visit The Strand bookstore.
Visit the Rizzoli bookstore.
And walk back to the apartment where I am staying - 8.4 miles.
Saul Leiter is one of the photographers in my personal Pantheon of great photographers, and he may be my favorite.
One of this trip's goals, and probably the primary goal, is to start training for our upcoming walk across England. We are going to walk the route in the image below — 183 miles in 18 days through the Lake Country, the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors. I need the training as there are a couple of 16-17 mile days!
Below the map is an e-zine of my Hipstamatic images. This is the second version, so if you have seen the first version, this version has more images and a few have been changed out or paired with different images. My current focus on using the Hipstamatic app is detailed in the introduction. You can view a full screen version of the zine by clicking on the square up in the right hand corner of the frame/box.
It is time to get ready for day one!
